C/2002 H2 (LINEAR) was identified by the LINEAR team on April 22nd 2002 as a magnitude 15.9 object with a significant coma. The comet was found to be receeding from perihelion which had been passed on March 23rd 2002 at 1.63AU from the Sun.
The light curve
This comet faded quickly after discovery and was last observed on
July 12th. The absolute magnitude is given as 6.0, but this is very much
influenced by the rate of decline of 25 log r that makes the absolute magnitude
seem brighter than it really is. Despite the fact that the comet is quite
favourably placed for northern hemisphere sites in late Summer and early Autumn
2002 at high declination, there have been no further observations.
